In an article published two weeks ago I was explaining my pessimism with regards to the directions taken by Society. For those who know me this is not really surprising; my high optimism phases alternate with some more pessimistic ones, that force me to gain perspective on my role in the Society and my work as a market researcher. This is a rather healthy alternance.

So after my pessimism phase of last week I consoled myself with a good dose of optimism.

Nans and Mouts: heroes of social relations

When preparing my summer trip to Iceland, I discovered by chance “Nus et cullotés”, a series broadcasted on French TV Channel “France 5”. The principle is simple. Two young guys (Nans Thomasey and Guillaume Mouton aka “Mouts”) set themselves a goal that they will try to achieve. This goal usually require them to travel. And here comes the funny part. Their starting point is usually far away from their final destination, and they start their tribulation “naked” and with no money at all. Here are a few goals they set themselves : “drink tea with Lord “,” eat chocolate with the King of Belgium “,” see the northern lights “, ” see a bear “. When they start, the their first challenge is to find clothes.

True Human relationships …

When they embark on the adventure, Nans and Mouts will inevitably need to find help, reach out to others, share their story and listen to the others’ stories. This is a great human quest, a quest for lost social connections. In this quest there are no smartphone, tablets, those technological objects that have created distance between us. Nans and Mouts’ advanetures are beautiful, moving, and gave me faith again in Humanity. Not everyone is selfish. There are still some good people out there, ready to help the others, ready to offer food and shelter, willing to be part of the adventure of those two young crazy French guys.

Self-reflection

Those guys sow seeds of hope behind them. And they also invite those watching their adventures to reflect on their own behavior. You will inevitably ask yourself this question multiple times “How would I react in this situation?”.

Each episode is also very entertaining and will probably teach you that we can still have some confidence in Humanity. It will certainly give you the force to go towards the Other and share positive vibes.

What I appreciate the most in this series is the path taken by our two Heroes to reach their goal. All paths are different and that’s the most inspiring part. After all, life is a path in itself, isn’t it?

I won’t finish that post without giving you the opportunity to watch one episode. They are all equally good. The one you’ll find below is one of the few with English subtitles. Seat back and enjoy.
