After the tremendous success of the Data Innovation Summit 2017, an online conversation started during my talk on the relationship between Big Data and Ethics. Suddenly several people expressed interest in deepening this topic. It took us only a few minutes to gather potential speakers and lay out the structure for a meetup gathering in Brussels.
I’m proud to announce to we have confirmed some amazing speakers and that we are on the right track to achieve more than 100 registrations for this meetup. You shouldn’t miss this opportunity to discuss what may be the most important non-technical topic to dtaa in the data science sphere. Join on 15 June at 6:30 pm at the VUB (Vrije Universiteit Brussel) in Brussels (all details here).
Prof. Michael Ekstrand (Boise University, USA), who did a very noticeable presentation on the topic at the 2016 RecSys conference in Boston (Massachussets Institute of Technology) has accepted our invitation to speak and will be our special guest on that day.
If you want to prepare for this meetup you may want to review some of the articles I published earlier. For instance my call for more respectful algorithms which followed a pessimistic freedom-threatening perspective of artificial intelligence. In December 2016 I organized a 2-day conference in Brussels with EBU members and distinguished academic speakers. We very intensively dealt with the topic of ethics which, in my work at RTBF, I’m trying to integrate (see my talk at the Data Innovation Summit) on how we design ethical algorithms and integrate the privacy-by-design approach.
