The Paris Chamber of Commerce organized this year a contest called “Paris Design Week” for Paris-based stores to promote the use and importance of design in a retail environment.
As the Chamber of Commerce puts it: “The Paris Shop & Design prize promotes the most exemplary initiatives in terms of design in Parisian shops, close-range services, cafés, hotels and restaurants”. Shopkeepers could apply until April 30th 2012 and prizes were awarded on Sept 10th. Seven categories were created and seven prizes were awarded: Art & Design, Design & Architecture, Iconic / Upcoming, Digital Design & Innovation, Design in France, Food & Design, Mobility
On Nov 17th we will start visiting those shops and will post individual reports in the coming weeks.
You can already get a taste of the various retail environments which competed in the event by following this link.
For us, one of the most emblematic retail places in Paris (which got one of the 7 prizes) is that flagship store that Hermes created on the premises of the Lutetia swimming pool.
