A 3D printing popup store in BHV Le Marais (Paris)

Here is an amazing popup store that the most techie of you will love. If not done already read also our review of Twinkind, this amazing startup in Berlin that produces photo-like 3D figurines.

Le Fabshop is a French startup that focuses on 3D printing technology and is the official reseller in France of Makerbot devices. In collaboration with the BHV (Bazar de l’Hôtel de Ville) in Paris, they opened on the 5th floor a large ephemeral space (from April 3rd 2014 until May 9th 2014) dedicated to 3D printing technology. The purpose is to open up the B2C market by attracting technologie enthusiasts and guide them through the different steps of making their own 3D objects.

Le Fabshop has installed two dozens of printing machines and organized workshops to teach the basics and more (a complete list of the workshops is available in French here).

When we visited the popup space we were amazed to see the variety of persons. It virtually ranged from 7 to 77 and you could see in everyone’s eyes how amazed they were when seeing objects being created in front of them. As far as I’m concerned I must admit that witnessing the creation process of an object is really magical (although it’s pretty slow). Some 20 years ago that technology was still science fiction and today it’s almost available to anyone.

Next to the “playroom” where workshops attendees can create their object and then print them, there is also an exhibition of objects and works of Art created in 3D.
